I had an issue with synology surveillance software that worked fine in chrome, but when I had to log back in, a couple weeks later, it stopped working in chrome. This goes back to the pros/cons I mentioned above. I've seen an issue with honeywell NVR software (I believe that was the software) that would require admin rights to install, which is normal, but would not run if the local user wasn't an admin, as well.
That is a good point and that problem is not limited to VMS thick clients. Regardless, you both provided useful information and that's what I was looking for. Of course there are also challenges with Exacq software (on mac) not being compatible/playing nice with macOS upgrades (been there to see that first hand), but in my experience, the client seems to have less issues vs browsers. I'm not saying the Avigilon browser client can't do this, I'm sure it can, but the browser always presents challenges with updates, etc.
They just launch the app and everything is there. While I agree Exacq's support has gone downhill, big time, being able to install a mac client for a non tech savvy user is nice. Many of these clients like to open one program and everything is there. Personally, I don't mind virtualizing on macOS, but these types of questions are usually me asking for a client I'm working with. I've been using Exacq for a long time and since they have a mac client, I just assumed all other major companies did, as well.
